Told from Alysha's point of view!
People often ask me what itās like to run Hello Kingston Kids and honestly, no two days are the same! Thatās the beauty of building a local community platform for families - itās a mix of creativity, connection, and organised chaos (especially while juggling my own kids too š ).
Hereās a little peek into what a day in my world looks like behind the scenes of Hello Kingston Kids.
āļø 6:00 AM ā Morning Madness & Mum Life
The day starts early with the usual pre-school morning chaos, breakfast negotiations, shoe-finding missions, and trying to leave the house somewhat on time. As a mum of three (soon to be four!), mornings are full-on, but it keeps me grounded in the very community I support. Iām living the same reality as the families I create content for, which really helps me stay in tune with what matters most to local parents.
š» 9:30 AM ā Emails, DMs, Planning the Week & Entertaining my Littles
Once the oldest is at morning pre school, I sit down with breakfast, give my younger two their endless snacks and start diving into the inbox, I check in with local businesses, connect with my business partner and speak with with potential advertisers or collaborators.
š 12:00 PM ā Back From School Pick-Up, Brainstorming (While Hoping 2 out of 3 Kids Nap!)
With a bit of luck and a quiet house (or at least a semi-quiet one), I jump into a quick brainstorming session with Alana. This is when we get creative, planning upcoming social posts, updating the website, and chatting through ideas to help grow the Hello pages and The Local Kids Network.
Our goal is always to keep HKK local, helpful, and upliftingĀ ā no spammy ads or filler, just genuinely useful info for families. We love sharing real, behind-the-scenes moments too ā the kind that make parents feel seen, supported, and not so alone in the chaos.
š 3:30 PM ā Afternoon Hustle
Time to swap the work hat for full-time mum mode during the high-energy hours! Afternoons are a whirlwind of snacks, endless at-home activities, and the occasional sibling squabble, but in between it all, youāll still find me replying to messages and bouncing ideas around with Alana.
Running a business from home with kids in tow definitely has its challenges, but the flexibility it offers is truly priceless.
š 7:30 PM ā Wind Down & Future Planning
Once the little ones are in bed, I try to carve out quiet time to get my solo work done and plan for the week ahead. Sometimes that means brainstorming collabs, managing partnerships, or dreaming up new ideas for expanding our network into new towns.
Being a small business owner (and a mum) means I wear a lot of hats, but I genuinely love what I do. Building a platform that supports local families and small businesses feels like such a meaningful way to give back to the community thatās given so much to me!
